A new observational study suggests that higher gut microbiome diversity may be associated with improved sleep quality and reduced nighttime awakenings in healthy adults.

Researchers analyzed stool samples and sleep tracking data from more than 1,200 participants over a six-month period. The findings showed correlations between specific bacterial strains and longer deep sleep cycles.

The study authors noted that diet, stress, and physical activity likely contribute to the relationship between microbiome balance and sleep regulation.

Further clinical trials are expected to explore whether targeted probiotics or dietary interventions could improve sleep outcomes.
